I know that everyone is super keen when I upload a new social media timeline. But because of all the shenanigans over at Twitter in the last few months, sites have popped up (or become much more popular and known to me) left, right, and centre. So I have updated this timeline for the second time in as many months.

One thing that stands out is that there are many more federated social media platforms that are coming into the limelight. This isn’t always because they are new, but more because they are now being sought out as the structure of a private company/single person owning a beloved social platform turns people off. Are these federated sites any good? I think it depends on what you mean by ‘good’ and what you want and expect from both your social media platforms and your federated social media platforms. But, will we see more in the immediate future? Likely. We also might see well-known people in tech starting new platforms that take into account some of this shift to the fediverse and elements of decentralised platforms.

As always, if you want to use this remember to credit me, and please get in touch for a high-res copy.
